ITV2 in the UK is further expanding its comedy line-up after picking up CBS comedy The Great Indoors.

The channel has signed a licensing agreement with CBS Studios International for first window broadcast and VoD rights to the show.

The multi-camera comedy, which stars Joel McHale and Stephen Fry, is about a roving reporter who has to adapt to the digital world.

Mike Gibbons, Chris Harris and Andy Ackerman are executive producers on the comedy, which is produced by CBS Television Studios and airs on CBS this fall.

Rosemary Newell, ITV’s newly appointed director of digital channels and acquisitions, said: “The Great Indoors is a smart premise, with a strong cast and we think it’ll be a great addition to the wealth of youth skewing comedy we’re continuing to build on ITV2.”

Newell said at the Edinburgh International Television Festival last month that she wanted to “grow ITV’s comedy stable” after the acquisition of animated show Family Guy and original comedy Plebs.

The channel commissioned time-travelling sitcom Timewasters from Big Talk Productions last month.

Former Discovery exec Newell became ITV’s head of digital channels and acquisitions under Kevin Lygo’s reshuffle earlier this year.
