ITV turns up Mainstreet drama

ITV in the UK has commissioned a six-part thriller from Mainstreet Pictures, the indie founded by its former drama commissioners Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes.

The Forgotten is the first order for the former ITV execs who greenlit Broadchurch, Downton Abbey, Scott & Bailey and Appropriate Adult during their time at the commercial broadcaster.

The pair launched Mainstreet Pictures in January 2013 with backing from former BBC1 controller Lorraine Heggessey.

The Forgotten, written and created by Chris Lang (Undeniable, A Mother’s Son, Torn), focuses on a murder case from 39 years ago. With the discovery of a young man’s skeleton underneath a house, a cold case review begins.

It was commissioned by ITV’s director of drama Steve November and controller of drama Victoria Fea. The series will begin filming in mid March 2015 for 12 weeks. The producer is Tim Bradley (Teachers, Primeval, Death in Paradise). BBC Worldwide has acquired global distribution rights.
