ITV takes QuizUp pilot

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has become the first network in Europe to order a non-TX pilot of a new interactive gameshow format from NBCUniversal International Studios.

QuizUp (working title) gives in-studio contestants the chance to earn cash prizes by winning high-stakes trivia battles against viewers based around the UK playing in real-time from home on mobile devices.

The show is the result of a collaboration between NBC and game studio Plain Vanilla Corp.

QuizUp is one of the world’s leading trivia apps, claiming more than 75 million users worldwide. It currently has more than four million players in the UK.

The pilot was ordered by ITV director of entertainment and comedy Elaine Bedell and will be produced by one of NBCUniversal International Studios’ production entities.

The show has already received a 10-episode order in the US from NBC, that version having been created by Jeff Apploff and Wes Kauble.

The format was unveiled by NBCUniversal International Formats at Mipcom.
