ITV, Syco track down crime doc

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned a crime documentary from Simon Cowell’s Syco, the prodco behind shiny-floor talent shows The X Factor and Got Talent.

The Investigator: A British Crime Story follows former policeman and reporter Mark Williams-Thomas as he re-examines a previously closed murder case that has baffled detectives for more than 30 years.

Williams-Thomas was one of the men who exposed TV personality Jimmy Savile as one of the UK’s most notorious paedophiles.

The four-part show, a coproduction with ITV Studios label Shiver, will be in a similar style to Netflix’s Making a Murderer and HBO’s The Jinx. It will air next month.

Earlier this month, ITV aired Williams-Thomas’ interview with convicted murderer and former paralympian Oscar Pistorius.
