ITV orders Spun Gold royal doc duo

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has greenlit two further royal wedding specials from London-based indie Spun Gold TV.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Spun Gold is already working on a Meghan Markle doc for Fox in the US ahead of the actress’s marriage to Prince Harry in May, as well as a project for ITV on Harry’s step-mother HRH The Duchess of Cornwall.

Now ITV has commissioned Prince Harry’s Story: Four Royal Weddings… (1×60’) which charts Harry’s journey from the death of his mother HRH Diana Princess of Wales through active service as a soldier in Afghanistan and his later international charity work, to his forthcoming wedding.

The doc looks at his life through the prism of its most important turning points: four royal weddings and the funeral of his mother.

Meanwhile, Royal Wives of Windsor (2×60’) is a documentary series looking at some of the women who wed into the house of Windsor over the past century.

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (The Queen Mother), Wallis Simpson, Lady Diana Spencer, Sarah Ferguson, Camilla Parker-Bowles, Sophie Rhys Jones and Catherine Middleton are all featured.

Historians David Starkey, Kate Williams and Piers Brendon, writers and broadcasters Jeremy Paxman and Afua Hirsch, biographer Andrew Morton and royal insiders provide a review of British social history as reflected through the lives of these women.
