ITV orders Got Talent spin-off

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned a spin-off from Simon Cowell’s Britain’s Got Talent franchise.

Planet’s Got Talent is being produced by FremantleMedia UK subsidiary Thames and Cowell’s Syco Entertainment (X Factor). The series will highlights some of the most memorable acts from the reality TV format in countries ranging from the US to Vietnam.

The 6×30’ series will be narrated by Warwick Davis (Life’s Too Short, Star Wars) and will air in early 2015.

Planet’s Got Talent was greenlit by Asif Zubairy, ITV commissioning editor for entertainment and is exec produced by Tim Dean for Thames.

According to the Guinness Book of Records 2014, Got Talent is the most successful reality television format in the world with 230 series across 67 different territories.

In related news, Scottish commercial broadcaster STV has had its 2015 pay offer “unanimously” approved by union members, just days after ITV staff proposed a ballot over strike action about low pay.

STV operates the two ITV licensees in northern and central Scotland, formerly known as Grampian Television (now legally STV North) and Scottish Television (now STV Central).
