ITV orders Clunes drama

UK broadcaster ITV1 has ordered a new drama featuring Doc Martin star Martin Clunes.

A Mother’s Son (2×60′) sees Hermione Norris (Spooks) and Clunes star as a married couple that suspect their children of murdering a teenage schoolgirl.

The two-part drama is co-executive produced by Chris Lang (Primeval) and Myar Craig-Brown (Holby City), produced by Colin Wratten (Waking the Dead) and directed by Ed Bazalgette (EastEnders). Shooting has already begun on the show, which will be produced by the UK network’s production arm ITV Studios.

Earlier this week, ITV CEO Adam Crozier praised the performance of ITV Studios in 2012 and credited the prodco with contributing to ITV’s reportedly sharp rise in revenue so far this year.

A Mother’s Son follows a recent spate of commissions from ITV, including entertainment format My Man Can, murder mystery The Bletchley Circle and Ian Rankin adaptation Doors Open.
