The ITV Studios-produced programme, which follows a group of inspirational women in a rural community during the war, was inspired by the non-fiction book Jambusters by Julie Summers.

Four episodes of the first series have aired with the remaining two to be broadcast over the next two Sundays.

Home Fires was created and written by Simon Block (Lewis, The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall, Attachments). It was been recommissioned for ITV by director of drama Steve November and controller of drama Victoria Fea.
