ITV, Clarkson return to Millionaire

Stellify’s reboot of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? with Jeremy Clarkson

UK commercial broadcaster ITV is bringing back hit 1990s quizshow format Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? following a successful run earlier this year.

The Grand Tour and former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson will reprise his role as host for the 10×60’ series, which is due to air on ITV in early 2019.

The show, based on a Sony Pictures Television property, will continue in its classic format, offering members of the public the chance to win £1m (US$1.3m) by correctly answering 15 questions. They are aided by the familiar lifelines of Ask The Audience, Phone a Friend and 50:50. They are also now able to Ask The Host, a feature that was trialled in ITV’s earlier run in May.

Sony-backed Northern Irish prodco Stellify Media will return to produce the series, which will be aired as a stripped event. Fiona Clark and Stellify’s joint MDs Kieran Doherty and Matthew Worthy will exec produce the show, with directors Julia Knowles and Richard Valentine.

The show was commissioned for ITV by Siobhan Greene, head of entertainment, alongside commissioning editor Ben Kelly.

Having returned to mark the 20th anniversary of the programme earlier this year, the gameshow performed well for ITV, launching with 6.1 million viewers and a 31% share.
