ITV aborts Grylls Mission

Bear Grylls: Mission Survive will not return to ITV

Bear Grylls: Mission Survive will not return to ITV

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has pulled the plug on celebrity adventure series Bear Grylls: Mission Survive after two seasons.

The show, produced by Bear Grylls Ventures, US prodco Electus and Discovery-owned Betty, saw eight celebs face a 12-day survival mission, battling difficult terrain and weather as they build shelter and scavenge for food.

The second season returned earlier this year but ITV has now confirmed it will be its last.

“We had two exciting series of Mission Survive, but the commissioning team continues to refresh the channel’s entertainment portfolio and so we have taken the decision not to commission a further series,” said an ITV spokeswoman.

“We would like to thank Bear and the production team for everything they achieved with the series.”

ITV said it is in talks with Grylls on new projects. The presenter is also currently hosting children’s show Survival School on the broadcaster’s CITV channel.

Grylls’ Channel 4 programme The Island, which hails from Endemol Shine Group, is set for a celebrity edition this fall.
