Ireland’s TG4 remakes Oz wildlife show

Irish-language channel TG4 has acquired the format rights to children’s wildlife series World Animal Championships (WAC) from the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF).

WAC will be re-versioned by TG4 to include local hosts speaking in the Irish language for a September 2015 debut. The 52-part show airs down under on ABC3 and is produced by Brisbane-based Blacklab Entertainment.

Lís Ní Dhálaigh, TG4 director of acquisitions and output, said: “The programme structure is very well suited to re-versioning and we are confident the humour, energy and entertainment value of the series will be a great addition to TG4’s kids schedule.”

WAC: World Animal Championships looks to uncover the strongest, smartest and most unpleasant species in the animal kingdom by putting them in head-to-head contests. It is distributed internationally by ACTF.

The original Australian series was acquired by Disney Channel in the UK earlier this month.
