Int’l nets hit A+E Studios for Six

Walton Goggins in A+E Networks’ military drama Six

A+E Studios has sold History military drama Six and slavery-focused miniseries remake Roots to a host of international broadcasters.

Created by William Broyles (Flags of Our Fathers) and his son David, Six follows members of SEAL Team Six on a mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan, but the operation goes awry when the unit uncovers a US citizen working with the terrorists.

The show is produced by A+E Studios and Weinstein Television and is inspired by the real missions of SEAL Team Six, the unit best known for killing Osama Bin Laden.

It will air on Artes in Spain, after premiering in the country on HBO, while Starz Play has acquired the show for the Middle East. Six will also air on Germany’s RTL2, having previously been picked up by Amazon in the country.

A second season of the show began production in Vancouver in July and is due to air early next year.

Roots, History’s remake of the 1977 drama adapted from Alex Haley’s novel of the same name, has been acquired by iQiyi and BesTV in China, TV Globo in Brazil and Showmax SVoD in Africa.

Nitro and Neox in Spain, HBO in Andorra, Kavosh Television and Manoto TV in Persia, FilmBox Premium in CEE, Channel 4 in Ecuador and RCN in Colombia have also taken the four-part show.

The deals come as A+E Networks prepares to debut its latest scripted series for US cablenet History at Mipcom next week.

Ten-part drama Blue Book, from A+E Studios and ImageMovers subsidiary Compari Entertainment, has been inspired by US military investigations into UFOs in the 1960s and is exec produced by Oscar winner Robert Zemeckis.

“Blue Book represents A+E Networks’ latest investment in premium scripted content through our own A+E Studios. It is yet another example of our commitment to build long-term relationships with top creative talent and deliver programming that resonates with viewers,” said Patrick Vien, executive managing director, international, at A+E Studios.
