Int’l nets go wild for Redford’s West

The West

The West is distributed by DRG

Broadcasters from around the world have acquired a forthcoming Robert Redford-fronted factual drama series about 19th Century America from UK-based distributor DRG.

Rai in Italy, Kabel Eins Doku in Germany, SVT in Sweden, DR in Denmark, AMC Networks International Iberia and Prima in Czech Republic will all air The West (8×60′).

Meanwhile, in Australia, Foxtel and SBS have picked up the series, with the latter taking the free-to-air rights.

The series has been produced by Banijay Group-owned Stephen David Entertainment and Sundance Productions for US cablenet AMC.

Using a blend of dramatisations, documentary footage and visual effects, The West sheds light on the violent and action-packed world of the cowboys, Indians, outlaws and gunslingers of the Wild West.

The series will also include guest contributions from talent including Ed Harris, Kiefer Sutherland, Kris Kristofferson, Burt Reynolds and James Caan.

MTG-owned DRG picked up the exclusive worldwide rights to the docudrama last year.
