Int’l nets add Studio Ghibli’s Ronja

Ronja the Robber’s Daughter is based on Astrid Lindgren’s novel

Broadcasters in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Taiwan have acquired a 26-part animated series produced by NHK in Japan with Studio Ghibli and The Astrid Lindgren Company.

TF1 Max in France, RTBF in Belgium, RTS in Switzerland and PTS in Taiwan will air Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, which is distributed by UK-based Serious Lunch.

Based on the novel by Astrid Lindgren and directed by Goro Miyazaki, the series tells the story of a 10-year-old girl who befriends the son of her father’s rival, testing her friendship and family loyalties.

It originally aired on NHK in Japan and has also been sold to Amazon Prime in the UK and US, SVT in Sweden, VRT in Belgium, Jeem TV in the Middle East, Canal Once in Mexico and Czech TV.

It was produced by NHK, NHK Enterprises and Dwango in collaboration with Studio Ghibli and The Astrid Lindgren Company, with animation created by Polygon Pictures.
