IMG detects Dirk Gently deal

Rights management firm IMG has picked up distribution rights to BBC America drama Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.

The eight-part show is slated to premiere in the fall and is based on the comic novels of the same name by author Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy).

The comedy thriller is a coproduction between AMC Studios, Ideate Media, and IDW Entertainment, with Circle of Confusion producing.

Chris Rice, WME IMG partner, said: “This is one of the most original and distinctive series we have seen in a while, based on iconic IP and with an incredible vision from Max Landis, Robert Cooper and Dean Parisot – we couldn’t be more pleased to bring this to a global marketplace.”

Rick Olshansky and Stefan Reinhardt, co-heads of AMC Studios, added: “This is an important series of distinction for our growing AMC Studios business and we are pleased to have its international sales in the hands of an experienced advocate like IMG.”

The pick-up marks IMG’s continued expansion into entertainment sales, following a deal to sell BBC-AMC series The Night Manager globally.
