Imax helps Herzog head into volcano

Maverick documentary veteran Werner Herzog is working on a 3D feature doc about volcanoes – one of the first projects to be partly funded by the new Imax Original Film Fund.

London-based Spring Films and Werner Herzog Film have received the greenlight from Imax for the project, which Herzog will direct.

Filmed in five countries over the next 12 months on Imax digital cameras, the doc aims to take viewers inside the heart of volcanoes and was chosen by Imax from a list of 120 proposals.

Herzog has made some of the most iconic feature docs of the modern era, including Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Death Row and Grizzly Man. In this latest project he will work alongside leading volcanologist Dr Clive Oppenheimer.

Lucki Stipetić is producing for Werner Herzog Film and André Singer for Spring Film. Richard Melman, formerly AETN UK channels director prior to becoming MD at Spring Films in March 2012, is exec producing.
