IM Global preps comic book drama

US producer and distributor IM Global Television has partnered with IDW Entertainment on a drama set in a world where a virus has ravaged the male population.

LD50 will be co-developed and coproduced by the two US production companies, with the publishing arm of IDW set to publish a series of comic books based on the action-drama next summer.

Created by Scott Dacko, who will executive produce and write the script, LD50 is described as an “expansive, thought-provoking character drama.”

Current IDW shows include BBC America’s Dirk Gently and Wynonna Earp, which airs on Syfy Channel.

IM Global Television’s current slate, meanwhile, includes an adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle with Noah Hawley at FX; TNT pilot Time of Death with M Night Shyamalan; and music series Muscle Shoals, executive produced by Johnny Depp. It is also coproducing Glint with Muse Productions and ProSieben Sat 1.

Earlier this year, US-Chinese finance and development firm Tang Media Partners took a controlling stake in IM Global, which also launched a TV-focused joint venture with tech giant Tencent.

“IM Global’s continued aggressive growth into the television business coupled with great creative on LD50 made this a very easy decision,” said IDW Entertainment president David Ozer.
