Hunan picks up Om TV, 3C sports format

MIPCOM: UK prodco Om TV has unveiled a new sports-tech-driven gameshow format in partnership with its joint venture backer, Chinese producer and distributor 3C Media.

Future Games has already been picked up by China’s Hunan TV for a 12-part primetime run at weekends in 2018.

The format deploys cutting-edge technology to create head-to-head sports battles on land, at sea  and in the air. Competitors each tackle two events, such as Lightbike Racing, Hydro Hurdles, Sky Freestyle, Hoverboard Racing, Sea Sprint, Jetpack Pursuit and Surf Slalom.

Om TV has linked up with tech and games experts worldwide to develop games for the show, among them Andrew Norgate (Gladiators, Total Wipeout, A League of Their Own, Wild Things).

Andrea Hamilton, CEO of Om TV and former Sky1 commissioning editor, said: “We’ve looked at the exciting new tech out there and realised that in 30, 40, 50 years it’s going to change daily life, including how we play sport and compete, and that’s exciting.”

Separately, 3C has also announced a co-development deal with UK indie prodco Zig Zag Productions on a new physical gameshow format called Ancient Games.
