Hulu, int’l buyers add kids’ sci-fi

Sci-fi adventure series Endlings is set after the last elephant vanishes

US streamer Hulu is among buyers to have pre-bought a forthcoming sci-fi action-adventure series from kids’ and family company Sinking Ship Entertainment.

Endlings will premiere in the US on streaming service Hulu and in Canada on CBC/Radio-Canada, with an expected delivery date of early 2020.

Additional pre-sale production partners include CBBC in the UK, Universal Kids in the US, ABC in Australia, SVT in Sweden, NRK in Norway and NDR in Germany.

Created by JJ Johnson, the half-hour series is aimed at nine- to 12-year-olds and their families. It is set after the last elephant on Earth mysteriously vanishes and follows four foster kids as they discovery humans are not alone in the universe.

“If this planet has any hope of reversing its ever-increasing loss of biodiversity, it rests with its inheritors. Our goal with this series is to start a conversation about life, how we treat each other, ourselves and those we share the planet (and universe) with,” said Johnson.

Sinking Ship in Canada is behind live-action series such as dinosaur adventure series Dino Dan and maths comedy series Odd Squad.

It is also distributing The Unlisted (15×30′), a live-action series from the producers of Academy Award-nominated feature film Lion and Australian pubcaster the ABC.
