Hulu bags Fargo in MGM deal

US streaming service Hulu has landed exclusive streaming rights to FX’s award-winning miniseries Fargo as part of an expanded licensing deal with MGM.

The drama’s debut 10-episode run will be made available on the service in 2015, prior to its season two premiere on FX.

Fargo’s first season, which aired internationally on Channel 4 in the UK and SBS in Australia, was produced by MGM Television and FX Productions and starred Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton. The show is a spin-off from the award-winning Cohen brothers feature film of the same name.

Under the MGM pact, Hulu has also acquired the first two seasons of History’s Vikings, which are now available to Hulu Plus subscribers. Season three of Vikings will premiere in February on History.

MGM Television is the worldwide distributor for the show outside of Ireland and Canada.

The expanded SVoD deal with MGM includes more than 1,500 episodes of programmes from the studio’s catalogue, including three Stargate series and classic TV shows such as Flipper, Green Acres and The Addams Family.

Hulu recently announced a multi-year agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution for new and forthcoming FX Networks series produced or coproduced by FX Production including The Strain, Tyrant and Married.
