Hulu adds Silverman, Spanish shows

Metastasis

Hulu in the US has ramped up its Spanish-language content via deals with Comcast stablemate Telemundo and Sony Pictures Television, and has ordered a weekly Sarah Silverman show.

The deal with US Hispanic broadcaster Telemundo will see five shows become available on Hulu, including La Reina del Sur, Bajo El Mismo Cielo and Celia.

Series picked up from SPT include Lady La Vendedora de Rosas, comedy show Los Beltran and crime drama En la Boca del Lobo. Metastasis, the Spanish-language remake of Breaking Bad, will also be available.

Movie content is also included, with director Pedro Almodóvar’s The Skin I Live In and Bad Education among those to become available.

Ten episodes of comedian Silverman’s I Love You, America (working title), have been ordered, with US prodco Funny or Die producing.

The weekly half-hour topical show will discuss the current political and emotional landscape of the US, and is being exec produced by Silverman and Funny or Die founder Will Ferrell.

Hulu has also added third seasons of family show Casual and relationship drama Difficult People to its summer slate, along with movies including Becoming Bond, a documentary/narrative hybrid about George Lazenby, the Australian former car mechanic who landed the role of James Bond.

Hulu’s offering has expanded rapidly over recent months, with the streamer also recently agreeing a deal with A+E Networks to make the latter’s cable channels available on its forthcoming live-streaming internet TV service.

The service, which will cost less than US$40 per month, will also feature channels from Hulu’s parent firms The Walt Disney Company, 21st Century Fox and Turner Networks, including ABC, Fox, ESPN and Cartoon Network.
