History’s Vikings goes to season six

Vikings’ fifth season starts in November

History has commissioned a sixth season of its hit historical drama Vikings before the fifth has gone to air.

The new 20-episode series, coproduced by Take 5 Productions and TM Productions in association with Corus Entertainment, is due to begin production later this year ahead of the launch of season five on November 29.

Created and written by Michael Hirst (Elizabeth, The Tudors), Vikings is a family saga that follows the lives and adventures of the raiders and explorers of the Dark Ages.

Hirst serves as executive producer along with Morgan O’Sullivan, Sheila Hockin, John Weber, Sherry Marsh, Alan Gasmer and James Flynn.

The distribution rights to the series are held by MGM, rather than A+E, something the US broadcaster has expressed regret about in the past.
