A+E Networks UK has commissioned a multi-part series fronted by YouTube star Alec Steele, who has been forging traditional weaponry since he was 11 years old.

Forged with Steele is being produced by Red Arrow-owned Studio71 and will air on A+E Networks’ History channel in the UK starting next month.

The 18×30’ series will see Steele in his Norwich-based forge recreating an array of historic weaponry that has proved decisive in some of history’s most important battles, from the Roman gladius and Viking battle axe to the Bowie knife and M9 bayonet.

The show is being billed as a companion piece to History’s hit blacksmiths competition format Forged in Fire, which is produced by Outpost Entertainment and has aired for five seasons so far.

Steele featured in one of the five shortform films produced by the UK’s Barcroft Media for History to accompany Forged in Fire last year.

Dan Korn, VP of programming at A+E Networks UK, commissioned the show. Red Arrow Studios International holds international distribution rights.
