History, DiCaprio explore frontier

History in the US has greenlit an eight-hour documentary series from Leonardo DiCaprio and Banijay Group-owned Stephen David Entertainment.

Frontiersmen will focus on the stories of iconic US pioneers such as Daniel Boone, Lewis and Clark, Tecumseh, Davy Crocket and Andrew Jackson.

It will chart the 75 years from the revolutionary war through to the California Gold Rush.

“During these years, America went from the opportunity of land to the land of opportunity, and it was a bloody struggle throughout,” said Paul Cabana, executive VP and head of programming at History.

The series will be is produced for the US cablenet by DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions and Stephen David Entertainment. A+E Networks holds worldwide distribution rights to the show.

DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson are onboard as executive producers, along with Stephen David, Michael Hampton, Phillip Watson, Kristen Burns and Russ McCarroll.

Stephen David Entertainment previously produced Sons of Liberty, The World Wars and The Men Who Built America in the factual drama genre for History, as well as The Making of the Mob for AMC.
