Historia scores Canuck hockey drama

Canadian broadcaster Corus Média is developing the first drama series for its French-language Historia channel.

The untitled show is based on the life of famous ice hockey player Jean Béliveau and will be written by Jacques Savoie, directed by Patrice Sauvé and produced by Montreal-based Pixcom.

Slated for 2017, the planned 5×65′ sports drama will also be accompanied by a documentary, with filming commencing in the third quarter of next year.

Brigitte Vincent, VP of programming for Historia and sister channel Séries+, described the show as “an exceptional project for Historia, especially since it will shed light on the life of widely respected hockey player and leader Jean Béliveau.”

Corus Média president Mario Cecchini said the show would be “a unique, large-scale project that truly demonstrates our desire to invest in Quebec productions.”
