Henson, DHX start work on Doozers

DHX Media and The Jim Henson Company moving ahead with a children’s series featuring a group of characters first seen in Fraggle Rock in the 1980s.

The Doozers has been in development with the two companies since 2009 and will go into production this month at DHX’s animation studio in Halifax, Canada.

Henson will present the coproduction at MipJunior and Mipcom. No broadcasters are currently attached.

The show was originally planned as a 26×30′ series aimed at four- to seven-year-olds and was due to air in 2010. It is not known if the project has changed since. DHX did not return calls for comment.

Doozers were background characters – essentially tiny construction men – seen frequently on Fraggle Rock, which ran from 1983 to 1987.
