HBO prescribes Dr Dre doc

HBO is prepping a four-part docuseries that explores the history of musicians including rapper and producer Dr Dre.

The Defiant Ones is from director Allen Hughes (Menace II Society) and explores the history and friendship between Dre (real name Andre Young) and music producer Jimmy Iovine.

The show features interviews with Dre and Iovine, as well as fellow musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, Gwen Stefani, David Geffen and Stevie Nicks. It debuts on July 9 at 21.00 ET/PT.

HBO will also air a doc from youth-skewing broadcaster and producer Vice that explores US foreign policy. A World in Disarray features interviews with former US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, ex-UK prime minister Tony Blair and UN ambassador Samantha Power, among numerous others.

HBO ordered 32 specials from Vice in 2015 as part of an extension to its existing partnership with the Shane Smith-fronted company.
