HBO is Getting On

US premium cablenet HBO has greenlit its adaptation of the BBC hospital-based sitcom Getting On to a full series.

Mark Olsen and Will Scheffer, who wrote and oversaw polygamist drama Big Love for HBO, will pen six episodes of the comedy, to be produced by their prodco Anima Sol alongside BBC Worldwide Productions.

Olsen and Scheffer will executive produce the US adaptation alongside the creators and stars of the BBC original – Jo Brand, Joanna Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine. Geoff Atkinson, who produced the original, and BBC Worldwide’s Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner are also attached as exec producers, with Anima Sol’s senior VP Lisa Bellomo set to produce.

The original version of Getting On aired in the UK on BBC4 and follows three nurses working on a geriatric ward in a NHS hospital. It has clocked up 15 episodes since 2009.
