HBO Europe picks up Peppa Pig

eOne’s popular children’s brand Peppa Pig

HBO Europe has acquired two preschool toons for SVoD service HBO Go in Central Europe.

Peppa Pig and Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom are made by UK animation studio Astley Baker Davies and have been added to the service in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Romania.

In April, the shows will also be made available on HBO Go in Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Macedonia and Bulgaria. The deals were brokered by transatlantic producer and distributor Entertainment One (eOne).

Peppa Pig has been a source of success for eOne since it took a 70% stake in Astley Baker Davies in 2015 for £140m (US$188.8m). At the time, eOne announced it aimed for the show to bring in US$2bn by 2020. The new deals are for the first season of the programme.

Peppa Pig follows the adventures on the titular character and her family and friends, while Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom centres on young fairy princess Holly and her best friend, Ben Elf.
