HBO crowns 2 Dope Queens

2 Dope Queens will air next year

US premium cablenet HBO is turning a hit comedy podcast featuring Jessica Williams (The Incredible Jessica James) and Phoebe Robinson (Broad City) into a TV series.

2 Dope Queens (4×60′) is set to air next year and is based on the podcast that launched in 2016. The weekly stand-up and storytelling show features Williams and Robinson discussing sex, romance and race.

Williams’ credits include TV series The Daily Show and Girls, while Robinson has appeared on TV shows such as I Love Dick, Broad City and The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. Williams, Robinson and Chenoa Estrada will executive produce.

“Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson prove you can be hilarious and socially conscious at the same time,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming. “We’re looking forward to bringing these very funny, talented women and their unique points of view to the HBO audience.”

2 Dope Queens is the latest podcast to be turned into a TV series, with ABC ordering comedy Startup based on the eponymous podcast, while Amazon has also commissioned Homecoming, which is based on Gimlet Media’s podcast of the same name.
