HBO brings Time Traveller’s Wife to present

Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams in 2009 movie The Time Traveller’s Wife

US premium cablenet HBO has given a series order to a TV adaptation of the debut novel from American author Audrey Niffenegger, which revolves around time travel.

The Time Traveller’s Wife is being written and executive produced by Steven Moffat as a Hartswood Films production in association with Warner Bros Television. Sue Vertue and Brian Minchin will also serve as executive producers on the project.

Published in 2003, the book is a love story about a man with a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel unpredictably, and his wife, an artist, who has to cope with his frequent absences.

It has previously been adapted as a 2009 feature film directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams.

Moffat previously wrote a Doctor Who episode called The Girl in the Fireplace that was inspired by the novel.
