The limited 6×60’ series was unveiled by Hakan Kousetta, See-Saw’s chief operating officer of TV, and head of television Jamie Laurenson.

Based on Ian McGuire’s 2016 novel, the series follows a disgraced ex-army surgeon who signs up as the ship’s doctor on a whaling expedition to the Arctic.

See-Saw’s credits include Top of the Lake for BBC2, which was the movie company’s first foray into TV. Production is underway on the second season, with Hulu now attached. Golden Globe winner Elisabeth Moss is reprising her role and it also stars Oscar winner Nicole Kidman.

Haigh has also signed up to direct the as-yet untitled Alexander McQueen biopic, produced by Damian Jones and Pathe, and has recently wrapped upcoming drama Lean on Pete, based on the book by Willy Vlautin.

See-Saw’s expansion into TV will continue with Trip, written by Louise Fox (Glitch) and based on the classic Chinese novel Monkey: Journey to the West, for BBC America.

The King’s Speech prodco also produced TV series Banished, a seven-part period piece from Jimmy McGovern and RSJ Films, as well as Love Nina, Nick Hornby’s adaptation of Nina Stibbe’s award-winning book.
