The news was broken by Akela Cooper, a writer on the series, who announced the pick-up on Twitter.

“Walk into the office this morning & our showrunners David Greenwalt & Jim Kouf tell me the good news: #Grimm is picked up 4 a second season!” she wrote.

Grimm, inspired by the fairytales of the Brothers Grimm, follows a homicide detective who learns he is a descendent of a group of hunters known as Grimms and must fight to protect humanity from supernatural creatures. It is produced by Universal Television and Hazy Mills Productions.

It debuted on NBC in October last year to 6.56 million viewers, with 5.15 million tuning into episode 14 on March 9.

NBCUniversal International Television Distribtion has sold the series around the world, including Watch in the UK, the Universal Channel in Latin America, Viasat4 in Norway, and Foxtel in Australia.

NBC decision follows rival network CBS’s renewal of 15 series last week, including crime procedurals Person of Interest, Hawaii Five-O, and Blue Bloods; and comedies 2 Broke Girls and Mike & Molly.
