Good Pitch expands to the US

Univision-owned Fusion Media Group has partnered with two factual film foundations to host a US version of the Good Pitch event in Miami next year.

Fusion Media, Britdoc and Knight Foundation are collaborating on the event, which has previously been held in London.

The Good Pitch will see seven documentary film projects connected to Latin America and the Caribbean selected to pitch in a Miami forum designed to boost their social impact.

Applicants can live in, originate from, or simply care about the issues facing the many cultures of Latin America, the Caribbean and their diasporas, including US Hispanics.

Filmmakers must submit their documentaries here by November 14.

Projects can be at any stage, from early production to completion and even early festival circuit, and should be more than 60 minutes long. Applications must be submitted in English, and the event will be conducted in English with Spanish translation available where required.

It comes after US Hispanic media group Univision Communications took full control of Miami-based network Fusion Media earlier this year.

The seven selected teams will be announced in December 2016 and will then start a six-month preparation programme including an Impact Lab in Colombia in February 2017.

The live Good Pitch event will be hosted at the New World Center in Miami on June 20 2017.

“Good Pitch shares Knight Foundation’s belief that democracy can be strengthened by informing and engaging communities, both through journalism and the arts,” said Victoria Rogers, Knight Foundation’s VP of arts.
