Brazilian pay-TV platform Globosat is adding two Australian drama series to its schedule following deals with UK distributor DCD Rights.

The Slap

The Slap (8×60’), produced by Matchbox Pictures for Australian net ABC1, follows a series of events among a group of friends that unfold after a man slaps a child that is not own. It is based on the best selling novel of the same name by Christos Tsiolkas.

The Globosat pick-up follows other sales to BBC4 (UK), DirecTV (US), Sundance Channel Global (Asia, Eastern Europe, Greece, Turkey, Spain and Portugal), SVT (Sweden), NRK (Norway), YLE (Finland) and TVO (Canada).

Globosat, DirecTV and Sundance have also pre-bought the second season of DCD’s Australian legal drama Rake (8×60’), about a criminal defence barrister.

Meanwhile, buyers visiting DCD at MipTV next month can get their first glimpse of This Christmas (6×30’), a new narrative comedy series about a dysfunctional family with each episode set at Christmas. Produced by Jungleboys and written by Trent O’Donnell and Phil Lloyd, it is due to debut this year on ABC1.
