Globomedia taps former TVE exec

The former general manager of Spanish broadcaster TVE has joined the Madrid-based producer behind globetrotting drama Vis a Vis.

Javier Pons has joined the Mediapro Group-owned production outfit as general manager and has been tasked with boosting the company’s presence on TV in Spain and internationally.

Pons had the same role at TVE between 2007 and 2010 and since then has worked as an executive producer at Azteca TV in Mexico and as a consultant.

Globomedia claims to be the leading production company in Spain for scripted programming and is behind series such as El Internado, Águila Roja and Pulsaciones.

Vis a Vis was recently acquired by Channel 4 in the UK and will become the first drama from Spain to be shown on free-to-air television in the country.
