German nets nab Nordic formats

German broadcasters are set to air local versions of comedy format Hotel Zimmerfrei and reality show Family Dinner, from distributor Nordic World.

RTL has acquired Hotel Zimmerfrei, which will be re-versioned for German audiences by Eyeworks in co-operation with HPR B&T. The show, originally produced by European prodco Immergut, mixes physical and verbal comedy with improvisation and a sitcom storyline and has already been licensed by China’s Shixi TT.

Meanwhile, Family Dinner, first produced by SkyHigh, will be piloted by RTL. The show aims to re-unite warring family members over a conciliatory meal and is from the catalogue of Dutch formats specialist Absolutely Independent, which Nordic World bought earlier this year.

Disney Germany has licensed 100 Days of Being Nice, first devised by Danish prodco Gong. It will be produced by FremantleMedia’s UFA Show & Factual, and sees a celebrity TV host attempt to re-introduce politeness to the nation through a series of events, media appearances and street campaigns.

Finally, German pubcaster ZDF has acquired Absolutely Independent’s format Checkpoint, and has lined up a local version of the children’s show for the third quarter. It was created by Dutch pubcaster EO and mixes science and light-hearted learning.

Nordic World, the programme sales alliance established and owned by TV2 in Norway and TV4 in Sweden, has been expanding its operations over recent months and recently set up a US division.

It has also opened a new Hungarian office, through which the latest deals were brokered, headed by Emese Acs, director of sales and acquisitions for Central and Eastern Europe, CIS, German-speaking territories, the Middle East, Turkey and Asia.
