German net falls for Love Island

Love Island is distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment

A broadcaster in Germany has acquired the rights to remake UK dating format Love Island from ITV Studios.

RTL2 in Germany will air a local version of the reality show, which sees singletons move into a mansion on a paradisical island in search of the love of their life, this autumn.

ITV Studios Germany will handle production and is currently searching for single men and women to take part in the show, which airs on ITV2 in the UK.

“Love Island is pure reality. Affairs and separations, flirts and intrigues, tears and consolation – just the right mix for our young audience,” said Thomas Zwiessler, head of programming at RTL2.

Mike Beale, exec VP of global development and formats at ITV Studios, added: “ITV2 has proven how noisy, engaging and press-worthy this format can be. The fact that series two generated 1.6 million tweets is a brilliant example of that.”
