Gaumont appoints production boss

LA- and Paris-based producer Gaumont has appointed a senior VP from US studio Miramax to oversee its scripted activities, including new episodes of its Netflix drama Narcos.

Leslie Belzberg has joined Gaumont as senior VP of production and will handle all facets of day-to-day scripted production for the studio and its projects.

Belzberg most recently worked at Miramax, overseeing both television and film production including season three of From Dusk Till Dawn for El Rey and movie Bad Santa 2.

She previously served as senior VP, scripted production at Shine America, where she was in charge of production for The Bridge on FX and Fox’s remake of UK drama Broadchurch, Gracepoint.

Belzberg has a long-standing relationship with director John Landis, with the duo co-creating production company St. Clare Entertainment and producing HBO’s Dream On, USA Network’s Weird Science, Fox’s Sliders and Disney’s Honey I Shrunk the Kids.

In addition, Sean Wolfson has been elevated to the role of director, creative affairs at Gaumont, having joined the company as executive assistant to the president in 2015 before being promoted to manager, creative affairs the following year.

Gaumont is currently in production on season four of Narcos for Netflix, while it is also developing several other scripted drama series, including an adaptation of Stephen King novella N.

It also has a first-look deal with JC Chandor (A Most Violent Year), encompassing Chandor’s production company, CounterNarrative, and producing partners Neal Dodson and Anna Gerb.
