FX feels The Strain for final time

US cable channel FX has ordered a fourth and final season of its vampire series based on novels co-written by Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro.

The Strain, which follows a doctor who is called to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak of vampirism in New York, will come to an end in the summer of 2017.

The novels were penned by del Toro and Chuck Hogan (The Town), who exec produces alongside showrunner and writer Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel).

The series is currently in its third season on FX, with FX Productions producing and 20th Century Fox Television Distribution holding sales rights.
