FX extends del Toro’s Strain

US cable channel FX has extended the run of its vampire series based on novels co-written by Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro before the first season has finished.

The Strain is a thriller about a doctor who is called to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak of vampirism in New York. The novels were penned by del Toro and Chuck Hogan (The Town), who exec produce the TV series alongside showrunner and writer Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel).

The second 13-part run will be produced by FX Productions, the Fox-owned channel’s in-house production arm, which also made the show’s one-hour pilot and its first season. It has been slated to air later in 2015.

The 13×60’ first season, which premiered in the US in July, is being sold internationally by 20th Century Fox Television Distribution and has already been picked up by UK digital channel Watch and Fox8 in Australia.
