Fulwell, Sony spin Ibiza drama

Sony and Drop the Mic producer Fulwell 73 are developing a TV drama to be written by Trainspotting’s Irvine Welsh that explores the rise of Ibiza as a cultural and music destination.

Ibiza87 chronicles how a group of friends from South London became global DJ stars during the late 1980s.

It is being penned by Welsh and Dean Cavanagh and is loosely based on the exploits of DJs Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Nicky Holloway, who are all attached to the project.

Leo Pearlman at Fulwell 73 produces while Josephine Rose is attached as exec producer for Sony Pictures International.

Fulwell 73 has been behind shows including sports doc I Am Bolt, about sprinter Usain Bolt; Class of 92, starring ex-footballers including David Beckham; and The Late Late Show With James Corden. The host of the latter became a partner in Fulwell earlier this year.

Pearlman said: “This is the story of a youth culture movement that swept a nation and eventually the world, the wider cultural impact it had and the legacy it left behind.”
