FTA deal for Power Rangers in Brazil

The revived Power Rangers series is continuing its Latin American roll-out after being picked up by a major free-to-air network in Brazil.

Power Rangers Samurai has been acquired by Grupo Banderiantes de Comunicação for the Rede Banderiantes TV network (aka Band), the show’s distributor MarVista Entertainment has announced.

The deal includes the 40 episodes of Power Rangers Samurai, plus some classic Power Rangers episodes, and was brokered by Snap TV of Argentina, MarVista’s production and distribution partner for Latin America.

“This is a clear message that Band is strongly investing in kids programming and this property will definitely be the leading attraction in our Band Kids slot throughout 2011 and the coming years,” said Helio Vargas, programming director, Grupo Banderiantes de Comunicação.

Power Rangers Samurai will air on Rede Bandeirantes in the fourth quarter of 2011. The deal follows the show being licensed to Mexico’s Grupo Televisa, France’s Canal J and Gulli, Canada’s Corus and Nickelodeon for several territories.

The show is produced by Saban Brands and Power Rangers Productions. Power Rangers first aired in 1993 and the brand has generated over US$5bn in retail sales worldwide.
