French-Canuck dramas set for remake

French-Canadian production company Aetios has sold the rights for two of its shows to be remade for English-speaking audiences.

Los Angeles based production company Intrigue Entertainment has licensed US rights to medical drama Trauma, whilst prison drama Unité 9 is currently in development with CBC in Canada.

Both shows were originally broadcast on CBC, with Trauma being broadcast internationally as part of French-language channel TV5 Monde’s line-up.

Set in the fictional Hôpital Saint-Arsène in Montreal, Quebec, Trauma toes the line between a group of surgeon’s professional lives and their personal ones.

Creative executive Kelly Pancho said Intrigue Entertainment had been attracted to the show “due to how each character is confronted by their personal trauma.”

No broadcast partner is yet attached.

Unité 9 tells the story of a widowed mother of two who is sent to prison for murder, prompting her to survive in a new world before bonding with guards and fellow inmates.

Screenwriter Steve Galluccio, creator of Canadian TV show Caio Bella – which was filmed and broadcast in both English and French – is attached to write the English-language version for CBC.

Both shows are represented internationally by AromaTV.
