FremantleMedia names that tune

Global production house FremantleMedia has picked up global rights to Name That Tune and is lining up a revamp alongside its existing slate of classic gameshows.

Name That Tune

Fremantle has acquired worldwide rights to the format from Prestige Entertainment Group, C21 has confirmed following a report from New York Magazine’s Vulture. It first aired on US networks NBC and CBS in the 1950s. It also aired in territories including the UK, where ITV and Channel 5 ran versions.

Name That Tune is now part of a stable that also includes The Price is Right and UK gameshow Blockbusters, which is being revived by the company for local diginet Challenge.

Name That Tune saw two contestants go head-to-head to test their knowledge of songs. Following its initial run, it returned to NBC in the 1970s before entering the syndication market. Episodes of the classic series most recently aired on The Family Channel in the US from 1993 to 1996.

In other Fremantle news, its North America arm (FMNA) has hired Holly Hines as VP of scripted development.

Previously director of development and original series at Fuse Entertainment, Hines will develop new scripted projects for FMNA. Her appointment follows FMNA’s first scripted order, The Wedding Band, which will premiere later this year on cablenet TBS.
