Fremantle sticks down Label1 investment

FremantleMedia has invested in UK factual production company Label1, which was formerly part of ITV Studios.

The global production and distribution outfit has taken a 25% stake in the factual producer, further strengthening its portfolio of investments.

Label1 is led by co-founders Simon Dickson (creative director) and Lorraine Charker-Phillips (director of programmes), alongside Jo Taylor, who is head of production.

Specialising in large-scale factual TV, the company was founded in April 2015 under ITV Studios’ in-house production arm Shiver, before establishing itself as an indie earlier this year.

Dickson previously spent three years with Shine-owned prodco Dragonfly and was also deputy head of documentaries at Channel 4, co-creating series such as One Born Every Minute. Charker-Phillips, meanwhile, was a commissioning editor at satcaster Sky.

FremantleMedia’s portfolio of investments in creative talent spans scripted, entertainment and factual businesses around the world, including Easy Tiger, Bend It TV, Duck Soup, Abot Hameiri and Naked Entertainment.

Label1 is the creator and producer of returning series The Job Interview for Channel 4 and Hospital for BBC2. It recently announced the commission of six-part series School for BBC2 and is in funded development on a number of new projects for UK broadcasters.
