Fremantle claims Korean quizzer

FremantleMedia France has picked up a South Korean social reality quizshow format from Asian broadcaster and producer CJ E&M.

The Genius Game first aired on CJ E&M’s channel tvN in 2012 and is currently in its third season on the company’s general entertainment channel.

The 12-episode series requires 13 celebrities from diverse backgrounds to answer a series of questions and undertake challenges.

FremantleMedia holds rights to the format in French-speaking countries, with the deal the latest in a flurry of foreign format sales for CJ E&M over the past year.

US network NBC greenlit a local version of unscripted show Grandpas Over Flowers in September and the Korean firm is also behind several other travelling formats including unscripted series Crazy Market, Superstar K and Super Diva, plus dramas Yellow Boots (aka Ice Adonis) and Nine: Nine Time Travels.

The latter was picked up for development by ABC in the US, via Fake Empire Productions.
