Freeform drama Shadowhunters

US cablenet Freeform, formerly known as ABC Family, has renewed its supernatural drama Shadowhunters ahead of the climax of its first season next month.

The series follows a woman who discovers on her 18th birthday that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – humans born with angelic blood who protect humanity.

It is based on the bestselling young adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare and produced by Constantin Film.

The renewal for a second season comes after the channel announced yesterday that its drama Switched at Birth would be coming to an end after the fifth season.
