Freeform applies for College-ish

Disney-owned US cablenet Freeform has made a 13-episode order for a spin-off from sibling net ABC’s comedy series Black-ish.

College-ish follows the eldest daughter from Black-ish’s Johnson family as she moves away from home, only to find life as a student isn’t quite what she expected.

It’s being produced by ABC Studios for Freeform (previously called ABC Family) and has been written by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and showrunner Larry Wilmore. Exec producers include Barris and Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and Brian Dobbins.

The show was ordered to pilot by ABC and joins a number of spin-offs this season. CBS is behind Young Sheldon, based on Big Bang Theory character Sheldon Cooper, while ABC has ordered a firefighter show off the back of Grey’s Anatomy.
