Franses gets Freeform gig

UK indie Freeform Productions has appointed the former head of Channel 4’s Indie Growth Fund to its board as a non-executive director.

Laura Franses, who left C4 in June, is joining the factual-focused prodco’s board to assist founders Antoine Palmer and Ann Lavelle.

Having set up and overseen the C4 fund, Franses identified and invested in 13 production companies, including Eleven Films, Arrow Media and Whisper Films. In this role, she held board seats at 10 prodcos, advising them on business strategy and operations.

Prior to joining C4, Franses co-founded the Emmy-winning TV production company Nutopia with Jane Root, which she ran as MD for four years.

Freeform, which is based at a farm in the UK’s Chiltern Hills and was founded in 1999, is known for its long-running Channel 4 series and format A Place in the Sun.

Lavelle said: “We are thrilled that Laura is joining us as we position the company for a new stage of growth. She is fantastic and already helping us to build a better company.”
